I never thought I would be the one to say this, but there are some real advantages to being clueless. While it has never been my goal to be the smartest in the room, I have come to understand that with that designation comes a whole lot of responsibility. Many who appear to not know or understand a lot, have been smart enough to figure out that not being as smart as the average bear has its rewards. The overworked and underpaid intellectual athletes seem to be in constant demand, and never get to rest on their laurels because their sport is always in season. Those who don’t have a clue, don’t always know it, and inadvertently they are shielded by bench warrants that keep them on reserve for very long periods of time. Conversely, if it is smart to play dumb, then it has to be just as dumb to play smart. By trial and error, I have come to the conclusion that dumb is the new smart, and dumbfounded or not, it seems like a smart move.
